Choir Auditions for 2020-2021 School Year
Audition Procedure:
We start with warm-ups to get you ready to sing! You will sing a major scale and choose a note card to see what minor scale and which sight reading you will complete. For sight reading, you will have 30 seconds to review and practice, then you will perform. You may hum or sing through the excerpt during your practice time. After sight reading there will be 3 tonal memories. I will play a pattern on 4-6 notes on the piano and you sing it back on any syllable you want. You only hear the pattern once, so listen closely. Lastly, you sing whatever voice part you chose for the Prepared Piece. You choose whatever voice part fits your voice the best, but your voice part is subject to change in next year’s ensemble. Here are the keys for scales based on the voice part you select for your prepared piece:
Soprano: Major scale F, minor scale d
Alto: Major scale Db, minor scale bb
Tenor: Major scale F, minor scale d
Bass: Major scale Db, minor scale bb
Audition Score:
Major Scale: 2 points, 1 Minor Scale: 2 points
8 measure sight-reading: 16 points (8 points for pitch accuracy, 8 points for rhythm accuracy)
3 Tonal Memory: 2 points each
Prepared Piece Pitch Accuracy: 5 points
Prepared Piece Intonation: 5 points
Prepared Piece Rhythmic Accuracy: 3 points
Prepared Piece Articulation, Diction, and Dynamics: 5 points
This year's excerpts for the prepared piece portion come from Sing To Me, Guiding Stars by Robert A. Boyd
Tone Quality will also be taken into consideration.
Choir Audition Dates will be March 10, March 11, and March 12. Please check the cork board outside the choir room (B121) to sign up!

Ambiance Auditions for 2020-2021
All incoming freshmen or current freshmen are eligible for Ambiance, our Freshmen/Sophomore pop/a cappella choir. Members of Ambiance are ineligible to try-out and participate in our extra-curricular pop/a cappella choirs, Danger Tones and Nothing But Treble.
Audition Procedure:
We start with warm-ups to get you ready to sing. You will sing a major scale and a natural minor scale (incoming freshmen) or a harmonic minor scale (current freshmen). You will then sing a verse and chorus of a song that you think shows off your voice the best. You will then complete an 8 measure sight-reading where you will have 30 seconds to review and practice, then you will perform. You may hum or sing through the excerpt during your practice time.
Auditions for Ambiance will take place on Tuesday, March 17th in the Oswego East Choir Room (B121). There will be 5 minute time slots all throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Sign up with your current choir teacher or email Mrs. King at cking@sd308.org to sign up for an Ambiance audition time.
